Application for Absentee Ballot by Mail
Burlington’s 2022 Regular Municipal Election will be Tuesday, April 5, in person, at the polls at Burlington Community and Education Center, 340 S. 14th St., from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Voters must go to the polls to cast a ballot, unless they turn in an Application for Absentee Voter’s Ballot by Mail at city hall.
There is a misunderstanding in the community that ballots will automatically be mailed out to voters – this is incorrect.
An application must be filled out by all municipal voters who wish to receive a ballot by mail, regardless of submitting an application for previous elections.
Application forms are available at City Hall, 415 15th St., or by calling 719-346-8652.
Electors use absentee voter’s ballots when they wish to vote early, want to avoid the polling location or will be out of town on election day.
When COVID-19 restrictions were in force during the 2020 municipal election, voters were encouraged to fill out these forms to cast their ballot by mail.
Receive ballot early
Upon receipt of absentee voter’s ballot applications, the city clerk’s office will confirm voting status as a qualified voter and mail out absentee ballots within 72 hours.
A qualified voter for this municipal election must be registered, reside inside Burlington city limits, at least 18 years of age, a United States citizen and have lived in the State of Colorado at least 22 days immediately preceding the election.
Application due date
While it is best to turn in applications as soon as possible, the deadline to submit forms to City Hall is 3 p.m., Friday, April 1.
Permanent list
Voters may now select an option on the Application for Absentee Voter’s Ballot by Mail to be included on a permanent list to receive a ballot by mail for future elections. This is a change from past elections.
One thing to keep in mind is that the individual will need to keep their address current with City Hall, or the ballot may not reach them.

Register to vote at the Kit Carson County Clerk and Recorder’s office at the Kit Carson County Courthouse, 1650 Donelan Ave.
